We both grew up in India, me in a small city in central India and she up in the northern mountains. Waking up each morning with a fresh cup of Mum’s chai is how mornings began for us, all our lives. In fact, to us, mornings smell of Chai.

 

When we moved to Melbourne for the first time, with childlike wonder, our senses craved that familiar taste of comfort – taste of a fresh aromatic cup of chai. Not chai latte, not chai syrups, no, they didn’t taste like the ones at home or like the cuppa at those infinite makeshift chai stalls across India. We wanted chai, as it’s meant to be. The Original Chai.

 

Still yearning, almost instinctively, we then indulged in our favourite source of liquid energy. And we think that was the moment when the idea of Original Chai Stall was born.

 

Inspired by the colourful chai stalls scattered across India’s infinite little lanes, each cup we brew is made with enormous, smothering amounts of nostalgic love for our childhood mornings, life in India and the love of Chai. A sweet mix of black tea leaves, ginger, cardamom, milk and more. On full disclosure: we follow our mother’s recipe to the brink, you know, as old school as it gets.
